Parla AI Matching is a dating and social discovery app that pairs the familiar swipe-to-match experience with an AI engine that learns what truly makes two people click. We designed and built the product across web and mobile (iOS & Android), with AI compatibility scoring, smart icebreakers and verified profiles. Profiles, photos and match data in the screens are illustrative sample content, not real users.

Challenge

The core question we faced: how do you keep the instant, playful feel of swiping while making every match more meaningful? Two things had to be true at once — the AI had to understand personality, intent and values beyond photos, and the experience on top had to stay fast, fun and safe enough for anyone to start swiping in seconds.

Swipe apps are addictive but shallow — people judge in half a second and burn out on matches that never become conversations. We needed to keep the speed and delight of swiping while surfacing people who are genuinely compatible.

Matching on interests, values and conversation style means handling deeply personal data. The AI had to feel helpful, not intrusive — transparent about why someone was suggested, with privacy controls users actually understand.

Fake profiles, harassment and ghosting erode trust fast. Photo verification, smart moderation and respectful messaging tools had to protect users — while real-time matching and chat stay instant and reliable at high volume.

Solution

One idea shaped our work: let AI do the thinking, keep the swipe human. We built a matching engine that learns from profiles, prompt answers and in-app behaviour to rank a daily deck of compatible people, each with a clear compatibility score. React Native on mobile, ReactJS and NextJS on web, NodeJS, MongoDB and a Python recommendation service behind them, all running on AWS. Real-time sockets keep matches and chat instant; AI icebreakers turn a match into a first message; and selfie verification plus smart moderation keep the community genuine and safe. Super Likes, Boosts and a premium tier add revenue without breaking the flow.

01. EMPATHY AND DEFINE

Modern daters swipe through hundreds of profiles yet rarely find real connection — many juggle several apps and feel burned out. We set out to understand where swiping created fatigue and mistrust, and what an AI matching app would need to earn trust from first-timers and experienced daters alike.

Research goals

Map how users browse, swipe, match and start conversations — and where fatigue and ghosting set in. Define an AI matching model that goes beyond photos and distance without feeling intrusive. Clarify safety flows: photo verification, reporting, blocking and respectful messaging. Ensure a fast, consistent experience across iOS, Android and web.

What discovery drew on

We drew on three inputs: the client brief and product requirements; interviews and surveys with active daters about what makes a match feel right; and established patterns for swipe-based discovery, profile building, real-time chat and trust & safety across leading dating and social apps.

02. IDEATION & CONCEPT SELECTION

We centred the product on one clear direction and refined it. The concept: swipe like you always have, match like never before. From onboarding to the discovery deck, matches and chat, every choice pulled toward the same feeling — playful, personal, and always safe.

03. THE REDESIGN

The project kept bringing us back to one question: how do you make swiping feel meaningful again? AI answered it — we learned from profiles, prompts and behaviour to surface genuinely compatible people, explained every suggestion with a clear score, and turned matches into conversations with smart icebreakers. The hardest craft was balancing intelligence with privacy: personalised, real-time matching and chat on top of a safe, transparent and verified community, consistent across iOS, Android and web.
