Timeline

~2 Weeks

Cornerstone Residential buys, renovates and sells homes using a proprietary AI valuation engine — serving institutional investors growing a residential portfolio, homeowners who want a fast and certain sale, and a pre-sale renovation service line. I designed the brand's full marketing presence: homepage, service pages, company and process pages, and a dedicated page for the valuation engine itself.

Elevate a fast-home-buying model into an institutional-quality brand experience that earns trust from both a family office and a family — one site, two readers, one register.

The core tension

A homeowner deciding whether to sell and a family office evaluating an acquisition partner are not the same reader. One needs reassurance, simplicity and speed; the other needs rigor, credibility and evidence of sophistication.

Category baggage

The "we buy houses" category carries baggage — fast cash offers read as downmarket and low-trust. Cornerstone needed the opposite: disciplined enough for a professional investor, safe enough for a homeowner making a huge decision.

Two calls to action, one brand

Two distinct actions had to live in one coherent brand: "Get an Offer" for homeowners submitting a property, and an enquiry flow for institutional investors exploring partnership — without either feeling like an afterthought.

The chosen direction leaned fully into an institutional, disciplined register — treating a home-buying service with the visual seriousness of a financial firm rather than the warmer, transactional look most competitors use. That is what lets one brand credibly hold both audiences: lead with rigor, soften with clarity. The homepage serves both entry points immediately and routes each audience into its own lane, with the valuation engine given its own data-forward page so the "institutional-grade" claim becomes tangible rather than asserted.

01. EMPATHY AND DEFINE

No formal end-user interviews were conducted. Discovery was brief- and competitor-driven — normal for a brand marketing site. The personas were synthesized from the brief and market analysis, not primary research.

Research goals

Understand what each audience needs to feel before converting — the homeowner's trust barriers against the investor's credibility bar. Define a register that reads institutional without becoming cold or alienating to homeowners. Map how competitors in the category present themselves, and find the position none of them were holding.

What discovery drew on

Two inputs. The client's brand brief — positioning, tone, the dual-audience mandate, and the valuation engine as a credibility centerpiece. And a competitor teardown — how existing "we buy houses" services and proptech platforms look and speak, which was mostly downmarket and transactional.

02. IDEATION & CONCEPT SELECTION

Concept direction: a restrained, editorial pairing — an elevated display face for authority, a clean neutral sans for clarity — over a disciplined premium palette of deep neutrals and a single confident accent, avoiding the bright, salesy tones common to the category. Cinematic property imagery, generous whitespace, and statistics presented like financial metrics rather than marketing numbers.

Site map

Home — dual-audience hero and routing. Service lanes — Institutional Investor · Homeowner · Pre-sale Renovation. The Company and process pages. The Valuation Engine — a dedicated AI credibility page. Utility — login and a persistent "Get an Offer" call to action across the site.

Key task flows

Homeowner: Home → Homeowner page → Get an Offer form → submit → offer in 24-48h → close in 7-14 days. Investor: Home → Investor page → engagement form (goals, budget, markets, accredited-investor flag) → response within 24h.

03. THE REDESIGN

Cornerstone was about making a fast-home-buying service feel like an institution without losing the warmth a homeowner needs. The answer was to design against the category — borrowing the seriousness of financial and data brands, then using clarity and a clean process narrative to keep it human. One brand, two audiences, one coherent register.
